Reimagining Liverpool’s much-loved natural history galleries, Wild World at the National Museum Liverpool upgrades the historic fabric of a tired space, making its rich content accessible to audiences of all ages. The project consists of new interpretation with scientific developments and decolonial agenda, object care, analogue and digital interactives, and additional content. The build is dismountable, timber-based, and most MDF is salvaged from a previous temporary exhibition. Liverpool stories from the collection have been picked out in a dedicated strand of interpretation, including world famous fossils discovered in the Wirral, Europe’s largest museum mural by local artist Tony Swift, important collection objects and decolonisation stories from NML’s store, and the ubiquitous chip-stealing seagull. This is an exhibition that can only exist in Liverpool.
