128 – Radical Landscapes

The invited competition asked for the creation of an exhibition on landscape. The proposal conceptualises the 3 sections of the exhibition as ‘plots’ and through the setworks attempts to recreate the immersiveness and diversity of nature as well as simulate our emotive connection to it. Plot 1 references the ways in which, historically, humans have divided and segregated the land. Hedge like walls form boundaries and walls in the space, and theatrical openings form windows through to artworks and interpretation graphics. Plot 2 creates an immersive environment which references productive landscapes. The humble water reed was used as decoration and form the dividing walls. Plot 3 contrasts against the previous 2 plots and creates an environment which references humankind’s use and misuse of the landscape and ecosystems for energy. Proposed walls are dark, representative of oil or tar, explored through the use of a thick paint and scrim finish.
