The Treetop Gallery, Tampere, Finland

A project undertaken as part of PUG

Client: City of Tampere

Status: Competition Proposal

The tree top gallery provides a unique visitor experience and setting for viewing art. The form derives from a traditional urban block, similar to the workers museum to the north of the site. The centre of the block is carved out to allow the building to wrap around the existing mature trees on site. As many of the trees as possible are retained. The main entrance projects into the newly articulated north south route through the site. A single birch tree, delicately balanced on top of the four storey circulation tower forms an urban marker for the gallery, whilst a rooftop advertising board and signage invites passers by.
